| Dns is short for Domain Name System, a service that translates Domain Names into IP addresses. While everyone is used to www.yourname.com, the computers themselves need numbers to talk to each other, and DNS is the bridge between our wording of sites and places and the computers numerical addresses. ExcessNET is able to provide Dns Server Services to those who dont have or dont wish to run their own Dns Server. Our Dns service includes domain name resolution for webservers and the like, mail exchange (MX) resolution for email servers, common name resolution (CNAME) and subdomain nameserver redirection (NS). If you have a domain name that needs looking after then ExcessNET has the expertise to maintain your domain. For further information on subdomains to static ips and cname subdomains please view our Subdomains page. | Our Subdomain service is currently avaliable free of charge. If you are interested in having yourname.xsnet.org then please use the ExcessNET Enquiries link at the bottom of the page to contact us and we will check to see if the hostname you request is still avaliable. You can either have yourname.xsnet.org resolve to an IP, or you may choose to have NS (Name Server) records pointing to your IP - That way you will need to run your own Dns Server, but you also have full control over yourname.xsnet.org. |
| ExcessNET is also capable of providing Common Name (Cname) Redirection. This is excellent for those of you who have a Dynamic IP, and a DynDns Service. If your DynDns service gives you yourname.dyndns.theirname.com, we can point yourname.xsnet.org to your dyndns service.
